8 cups, 2 ounces, 2 gallons… Ever wonder how much water you truly need to drink in a day?!
According to experts, the solution is as simple as
1. Take your weight (in pounds) and divide that by 2.2.
2. Multiply that number depending on your age.
- If you’re younger than 30, multiply by 40.
- If you’re between 30 and 55, multiply by 35.
- If you’re older than 55, multiply by 30.
3. Divide that sum by 28.3.
4. Your total is how many ounces of water you should drink each day. Divide that number by 8 to see your result in cups.
EXAMPLE- If you are 150 lbs and 20 years old..
- 150 / 2 = 75
- 75 x 40 = 3,000
- 3000 / 28.3 = 106.007
- 106.007 / 8 = 13 cups of water a day!
Now keep in mind what we have talked about in prior blogs – the amount of water you need may differ. Variables that may adjust your water intake levels are:
- The weather
- Recent workouts
- Perspiration levels
- Fruit and vegetable intake
- General food Intake + salt
- Overall Health
Therefore, your calculated number may be a good rule of thumb but always keep your lifestyle and health in perspective!
